Scott Gillies cast as regional director at Manhattan
Scott Gillies has been named director of retail, responsible for the Asia-Pacific, while Archival Garcia , the new director of sales, will oversee Australia and New Zealand.
Gillies has worked at Manhattan Associates for more than 13 years and joins the Australian team from the company's headquarters in Atlanta. Reporting to Australia and New Zealand managing director Raghav Sibal, Gillies will be pushing Manhattan's Zero Disappointment Retail system, which allows retailers to present a unified brand across all channels -- traditional bricks and mortar stores, internet, catalogue, call centre, television and mobile.
Gillies says Manhattan already works with some of Australia's leading retailers, including Corporate Express/Staples, Cotton On, Fantastic Holdings and GraysOnline, Magna Home Entertainment and Super Retail Group.
"In Australia, we are seeing a greater propensity towards online retailing, a trend which will require companies to re-evaluate their supply chain processes to ensure they are meeting customer demand effectively," he says.
Garcia will have responsibility for Manhattan's Scale and Scope solutions. The first is a .NET-based distribution and transportation management suite; the second a collection of programs to optimise supply chains from planning through to execution. He joins Manhattan Associates from Dematic, where he was southern region manager for the logistics group.
JEFFREY Peterson has been appointed chief information officer for UGL Services worldwide, reporting to group president Robert Shibuya.
Peterson will be responsible for the technology strategy and standardisation of the company's infrastructure. He previously led UGL Services' global technology refresh project.
"UGL Services is bringing together our worldwide resources to focus on delivering services in each of our markets," Shibuya says.
"Jeff has the enterprise experience and an outstanding track record at UGL Services. He has a comprehensive understanding of how to leverage our IT infrastructure. I'm looking forward to working with him to fine-tune our IT assets and skills."
Most recently, Peterson was UGL's chief information officer for North America, and he has been with UGL Services since 1998. Earlier, he held several positions at Arthur Andersen in the US and Europe.
UGL Services is a division of Sydney-based UGL, which provides outsourcing services to property users worldwide.

China's helicopter surge will offer training opportunities for ...
2011-08-01 (China Military News cited from aviationbusiness.com.au ) -- A tourist involved in a traffic accident whilst travelling in China may be surprised to find a helicopter aeromedical system does not yet exist in the world's second largest economy. China has no effective helicopter industry to foster helicopter SAR and HEMS development.
By way of comparison Australia has 14,390 aircraft of which 1880 are helicopters (13 per cent, while New Zealand with 6400 aircraft has 791 helicopters (12 per cent).
China has only 130 helicopters when its population size suggests it should have 48,000 helicopters.
The Chinese helicopter industry has been restricted in the past by the difficulties in obtaining permission to use military airspace.
But help is on the way, albeit slowly. In November last year China announced the decision to intensify the reform of China's low altitude airspace. The new policy coverers major cities including Changchun, Chengdu, Guangzhou, Lanzhou, Jinan and Nanjing. The low altitude airspace will gradually expand to cover the whole country by 2015.
Chinese business leaders agree the new policy represents a lucrative opportunity to exploit China's huge general aviation market potential. In particular, the opportunities to develop a SAR and HEMS industry with international help are enormous.
A keynote speaker at Australia's Rotor Tech 2006 stated that China has so few civilian helicopters that the concept of expanding its GA industry to include a large number of multi-engine IFR helicopters is really not achievable in the short term without extensive assistance from international logistic and training providers, such as those in Australia and New Zealand.
Sourcing and training of Chinese general aviation managers, pilots, aircrew, engineers and educators will create challengers for several decades. It may well be that the Chinese would need to train 7200 helicopter pilots over the next two decades.
