Skechers posts loss after unloading Shape-ups
The company said its net loss was $29.9 million, or 62 cents per share, for the three months that ended June 30. That's compared with a profit of $40.2 million, or 82 cents per share, a year earlier.
The company said it cleared its inventory of 2 million pairs of its Shape-ups "toning" footwear in the quarter at a cost of $21 million and it set aside $4.4 million for additional product, for a combined loss of 31 cents per share. Excluding those items, the company's adjusted loss was 31 cents per share.
Analysts on average expected the company to report an adjusted loss of 34 cents per share, according to FactSet.
Revenue fell 14 percent to $434.4 million from $504.9 million. Analysts were expecting revenue of $438.5 million.
Despite the disappointing performance, the company noted that its new products were doing well. CEO Robert Greenberg said those sales should accelerate as back-to-school marketing begins.
