FHP: 1 Arrested In Crash Involving Street Racing Reality Show

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. -- Drivers in a high-priced car rally caused a wreck on the Florida Turnpike Friday, and witnesses said the drivers were street racing.

Fifteen souped-up cars were participating in the Bullrun 2011 Rally, on the Turnpike near US-441, when one of them crashed on Friday.

Florida Highway Patrol arrested Gregory Roselli from New Jersey after his $100,000 Audi R-8, called the "Stabbing Wagon," crashed on the Florida Turnpike.

State troopers said Roselli was part of the Bullrun 2011 Rally. The group has on Youtube videos on their high-end cars racing down the streets of Orlando.

"We just know we get complaints that their lives were in danger by the ways they were driving," said Kim Montes, FHP Spokeswomen.

Drivers called troopers when they saw the cars weave in and out of traffic on the Turnpike. According to the Bullrun website, drivers from across the world take part in this exclusive car rally. Reports said that rapper Ice-T and his wife, Coco, were also there. Only 100 drivers are invited to attend the rally.

It costs drivers $20,000 to participate in the seven-day event. Drivers started in Las Vegas and will end up in Miami. As the group was traveling southbound on the Turnpike, state troopers said Roselli lost control of his car, struck a barrier and then crashed into innocent drivers.

One of the drivers in the rally stopped, but denied reports that they were driving at more than 100 miles per hour.

"It's a car rally group of people driving across the country," said a Bullrun supporter.

FHP said an alert has been sent to all troopers along the Turnpike. So far, no other incidents have been reported.

Being in the wrong place at the wrong time can have deadly consequences. So can driving in a dark area with many pedestrians. Sadly, a Florida sheriff's deputy hit a pedestrian in his patrol car last week, and the man died.

According to the Orlando Sentinel, the pedestrian was likely observing an illegal street race at the time of the car accident . The victim, a 21-year-old male, was apparently near the median during the race and came into contact with, or walked into, the front driver side of the patrol car. The deputy was heading west on Wetherbee Road close to Sawgrass Plantation Boulevard when he collided with the pedestrian. The 21-year-old reportedly rolled onto the windshield. He was identified by the Florida Highway Patrol.

The deputy, a 30-year-old employee of the Sheriff's Office since 2008, was reportedly assigned to investigate and break apart street races. He was one of two officers assigned to the task. When the accident occurred, his lights and sirens were not in use, the Orlando Sentinel reports. He was not injured in the crash and arrests were made during the race.

In some cases, an illegal street race can have more than 100 people observing. The events tend to relocate for each race to keep police in the dark. A sergeant with the Florida Highway Patrol tells the Sentinel that the races are always dangerous for both drivers and observers, especially since people watching the races tend to be in dimly lit spots.

The street where the accident occurred is apparently a well-known street-racing spot.
