Georgiana Vines: Marilyn Roddy reports fundraising

Knoxville City Councilwoman Marilyn Roddy has raised nearly $92,000 in her campaign for the Republican nomination for the 6th District state Senate seat vacated by Jamie Woodson .

As of Friday, she was the only one of three announced candidates to file a report for the quarter ending June 30 with the Tennessee Registry of Election Finance. A spokeswoman for the office said the other candidates - Becky Duncan Massey and Victoria DeFreese - have until Thursday.

So far, Gov. Bill Haslam has not set a date for the election, but the state registry office decided on the July 21 date for reporting based on Knoxville's city primary on Sept. 27.

Roddy reported she raised $91,883 since declaring for the race on April 21. She has spent $19,201 and has $72,682 on hand. The campaign said 37 percent of the contributions were for $100 or less.

Roddy, who is term-limited on City Council and initially ran for Knoxville mayor before Woodson announced she was leaving the Senate, said she is humbled by the campaign program so far.

"I'm grateful that so many people have given us their support both financially and by volunteering their time. People truly care about the future of our great state. We're going to continue to push forward and take our message of job growth, low taxes and better schools for our children to voters across the district," she said.

Her husband, Patrick Roddy, and mother-in-law, Dorothy Roddy, each gave $1,000. Others who gave $1,000 or more: Charles Anderson, Fay B. n BROADCASTER RETIRES: Ann Taylor of Knoxville, voice of NPR's "All Things Considered," has retired and is "moving on and trying to do something different."

The daughter of the late federal Judge Robert L. Taylor and Florence Taylor lived in New York City and commuted to Washington, D.C., to do her work. She's cleaned out her apartment in Washington and will stay in New York, she said.

The Johnson City native is a 1958 graduate of the University of Tennessee, where she majored in English and minored in history.
