Birth Documentary: Pregnant in America
. I sobbed through the entire thing (for no apparent reason), and declared right then and there that I would not allow insurance companies or anyone else dictate how or when I would be giving birth. Seeing the movie was one of the major influences for why I ultimately ended up choosing a midwife .Since then, I’ve tried to continue to educate myself about various options through books, websites, and more movies. This weekend, we watched Pregnant in America: A Nation’s Miscarriage is a motivational, and inspirational documentary made by film maker Steve Buonagurio about the birth of his daughter Bella. Shocked by the greed of U.S. hospitals, insurance companies and medical organizations, Steve and his wife Mandy set out to create a natural home birth in a world where everything is anything but natural. The film is as much educational as it is entertaining and prepares excepting parent for their uncertain journey of being pregnant and having their baby.”
To me, the movie was far too one-sided and tried to make the argument that all hospital births are clinical and overly invasive. I felt like the only options they focused on were totally natural home births vs. induced hospital births or unnecessary cesarean sections. The film fell short in recognizing the vast array of options that lie in the middle – birthing centers, midwifery, and more.
With that said, there were some key things that stood out to me as important, and things I was glad to know now to be more prepared. While I have already quite a bit about the use of pitocin in many hospital settings, I had never heard of the (dangerous) drug cytotec being used to induce labor until I saw the film. I feel fairly confident that this isn’t something my midwife group would use anyways, but I’m glad to have the information now in case the situation arises.
The film also helped me reaffirm my hopes to birth as naturally and as peacefully as possible. I’m sure all the experienced moms are shaking their heads right now, but I am really hoping to go into my labor experience with a positive mindset and a calm demeanor. My hope is that by staying calm, focused, and relaxed, my hormones will not be competing with adrenaline, and I’ll be able to take it one contraction at a time.
Overall, I’m glad we watched the film because I feel like I can’t possibly get too much information on pregnancy and childbirth. I think the filmmakers had good intentions, but perhaps missed the mark by focusing on being too extreme, instead of showing the wide range of options available for childbirth and prenatal care.

Getting The Most Out Of Online Preschool Learning Games - News ...
When that time comes that you feel that your son or daughter is ready to start exploring the computer by using online preschool learning games, you are going to want to do a little research first. It is very important to make sure that the preschool online learning activities that your son or daughter is playing are right for their age and are actually games that he or she is going to learn from. Children this age are far too young to be using the computer as entertainment only.
Even though most children will only see the fun that comes from playing the online preschool learning games, you will know that there is a lot more to it all. Find games on the computer that are best suited for your little one and they will be off to a great start. The best thing to do is to actually sit down yourself, without your child, and look through all of the different online preschool learning games yourself. This is the best way to weed through what you do and do not want your child playing on.
Finding More Games
If you are having a little trouble finding the best of the best when it comes to online preschool learning games, you may want to consult your child’s teacher to see if they have any websites to suggest. More in likely the preschool teacher will know a thing or two about the different online preschool learning games as the children may have played a few in the classroom at different times. If they are not able to help you out, ask your friends who have children if they know of any decent online preschool learning games. They may be able to point you in the right direction and maybe even give a little advice.
If that still is not giving you what you are looking for, start thinking of the different cartoon channels that your son or daughter watches and find their websites. There is a pretty good chance that these websites will have some online preschool learning games on them. Basically, if you really look hard enough, you are bound to find exactly what you are looking for when it comes to some free online preschool learning games for your little one. Whenever you find them, make sure that you are spending time with your child playing them so that you will be involved with what he or she is actually learning from these sorts of games.
